Membership

How to Apply

Membership status in the SSSP recognizes exceptional contributions to school psychology research over an extended period and a commitment to future service to the organization.

Members are selected because they have maintained a strong program of research in school psychology (~10 years since receipt of highest degree), engaged in sustained service supporting research in school psychology, and made sustained contributions to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility research. Members also demonstrated a commitment to service to the SSSP and expressed a commitment to advance basic and applied scientific research in school psychology across the next decade.

SSSP membership is not an honorary designation or an award, per se. Membership status recognizes elevated contributions to school psychology research and a commitment to future service to the organization.

Some professional experiences and activities are not directly related to the research goals of the SSSP, but the membership selection committee will consider how prior service might translate into leadership supporting the society’s research initiatives.

SSSP membership is intended for established (versus early-career) scholars. Thus, cumulative career contributions to research will be considered.

As of June 2026, SSSP has 99 members, with total membership capped at 200. The Society includes both original members from the shareholders of JSP Inc and individuals who have been elected to membership. New members are formally inducted each year at the American Psychological Association's annual convention.

The SSSP conducted a survey of its members in 2025, and the results are summarized in this document. These surveys will continue biennially.

Beginning in 2026, applications for SSSP membership status are evaluated annually by the society’s membership committee based on information that the applicant reports and uploads to the Application Website .

Applications will not be accepted from anyone other than the applicant, but all applicants must have at least one letter of recommendation from a current or emeritus SSSP member who can attest to the research impact and service alignment with the SSSP’s mission. See the section below for a list of SSSP Members.
